Issues and strategy
The project is a store selling natural fabrics for bedding in Ukraine on the Prom platform. The Google Merchant Center account was blocked with the status “infected site.” This means that Google has detected potentially dangerous content or suspicious activity: users may encounter pages that pose a security risk, and advertising of products in such cases is automatically suspended.
Our strategy was as pragmatic as possible: quickly localize the source of the problem, remove the security risk, and confirm to Google that the site is clean and safe again. In addition, we implemented preventive measures to reduce the likelihood of repeated checks. Thanks to this, we were able to pass the re-check and restore the display of products in Merchant Center within 20 days.
What has been done
Main areas of work:
- We conducted an initial diagnosis of the block and identified the type of threat that caused Google to mark the site as infected.
- We checked the store’s pages for suspicious elements (redirects, third-party inserts, malicious scripts/links) and localized the problem areas.
- We eliminated the cause of the “infected site” warning: we cleaned/removed suspicious content and brought the pages to a safe state within the capabilities of the Prom platform.
- We rechecked the correctness of the pages after the corrections so that users could open the site without errors and dangerous warnings.
- We prepared the account for re-verification by Merchant Center and accompanied the process until a positive decision was made.
