Google will come with 3D reviews, buying guides and other shopping features to help you find what you’re looking for.
Shopping is not just about buying. It’s also about exploring new options, discovering new styles and trends, and researching to make sure you’re getting the right product at the right price. 09/28/2022 at the annual event Search On announced nine new ways to transform your Google shopping experience, giving you a more engaging, informed and personalized shopping experience.
This experience is powered by Shopping Graph, our advanced AI model, which now understands more than 35 billion product listings, up from 24 billion last year alone.
Let’s take a look at all the new features and tools.
More visual ways to shop:
1. Search for the word store. Today we’re introducing a new way to unlock Google purchases. In the US, when you search for “store” and then any product you’re searching for, you’ll get access to a visual feed of products, research tools, and nearby inventory related to that product. We’re also expanding in-store search beyond apparel to all categories from electronics to beauty and more geographies on mobile (and coming soon to desktop).
2. Buy the look. When you buy clothes from Google, you can now “shop looks” to help you easily put together the perfect outfit. Let’s say you’re looking for a new fall wardrobe, like a bomber jacket. The tool will show you images of bomber jackets and additional parts, as well as options for where to purchase them, all while searching.
3. See what’s trending. Trending Products is a new feature in Search that shows you what’s trending in a category right now, helping you discover the latest styles, styles, and brands. American shoppers will be able to purchase the look and see the popular products later this fall.
4. Buy in 3D. People interact with 3D images almost 50% more than static ones. Earlier this year, we brought 3D visuals for home products to search. You’ll soon find 3D visuals of shoes, starting with sneakers, when you search on Google. While many retailers already have 3D models available, we know that creating these assets can be expensive and time-consuming, often requiring hundreds of product photos and expensive technology. To make this process more efficient and cost-effective, we are announcing a new way to create 3D visual effects. Thanks to our advances in machine learning, we can now automate 360-degree rotations of sneakers using just a few still photos (instead of hundreds). This new technology will be available in the coming months.
Tools for shopping confidence
5. Get help with complicated purchases. Making certain purchases can be overwhelming—you’re weighing a lot of factors, reading the tones of articles, and opening countless tabs in your browser. For those more complex decisions, the new Buying Guide feature shares useful category information from a wide range of trusted sources in one place. For example, if you’re buying a mountain bike, a buying guide might show you information about size, suspension, weight, and materials. With this information, you can explore with confidence and make faster decisions. The Buying Guide was recently launched in the US, with new categories of information coming soon.
6. See what other buyers think. Page information will give you even more reasons to shop with confidence. This new feature in the Google app brings together useful context about the webpage you’re on or the product you’re researching, such as its pros and cons and star ratings, into one view. To find the best deal, you can easily enable price updates. Page Insights will launch in the US in the coming months.
More personal shopping experience
7. Get personalized results. You’ll soon see more personalized shopping results based on your previous shopping habits. You will also have the option to communicate your preferences directly to us, as well as controls to easily turn off personalized results if you wish. Here’s how it works: When you shop on Google, just make your selections once – your desired department and brands – to see more of each in the future. That is, if you choose the “women’s” department and the Cuyana brand, the next time you buy something like a messenger bag, we will show you women’s messenger bags from Cuyana and similar brands. And if at any time you don’t want to see personalized results or your settings change, you can easily adjust or disable this feature by tapping the three dots next to a search result through that result panel. Personalized shopping will launch in the US later this year.
8. Shop with new filters. Full-page shopping filters in Search are now dynamic and adapt to real-time search trends. So, if you’re shopping for jeans, you may see filters for “wide leg” and “bootcut” as these are popular denim styles right now, but they may change over time depending on what’s trending. Dynamic filters are currently available in the US, Japan and India, with more regions to come in the future.
9. Get inspiration beyond the search box. Using Discover on Google, you’ll see suggested styles based on what you’ve shopped for, as well as what others have searched for. For example, if you like vintage style, you’ll soon see searches for popular vintage looks suggested. Just tap what catches your eye and use the Lens to see options for where to buy.
